Adam and Ophelia set up Phad Education to provide Aberdeen with a professional, modern tuition service. Our management team and tutors have extensive experience in and passion for their roles, and are supported by our highly qualified consultants. Management



Adam Farrar-Wilson
Adam Farrar-Wilson - Managing Director / French

Adam is a director of Phad Education, responsible for business management and helps Ophelia with her role as Learning Director, as well as tutoring French. Originally from London, he has lived in Aberdeen since 2006. He has studied management and is now studying French at the University of Aberdeen.


Most recently, Adam lived in France and taught English in a college near Lille, where he was responsible for working on oral skills for high school English courses (French Baccalaureate) as well as Further Education courses designed for Business Studies, Hospitality Management and Receptionist Studies students. He has also tutored secondary-aged pupils in London in literacy and has experience teaching British children aged 6 to 13 subjects including English literature and language, French and art.


In his spare time, Adam enjoys reading French literature, going to the cinema and eating out, and volunteers as a counsellor for ChildLine.


Ophelia Frank
Ophelia Frank - Learning Director / French

Ophelia is co-founder and director at Phad Education, responsible for the quality of our teaching and tuition. She co-ordinates the ongoing training and pedagogical support for all of our tutors, as well as tutoring French and EFL. Born in El Salvador and educated at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle French international school in London and St Christopher School in Hertfordshire, she moved to Scotland in 2006 and is currently studying French at the University of Aberdeen.


Last year she taught in a French Lycee in the capacity of language assistant focusing on students' oral and aural skills through both in-class activities and by delivering their mock examinations in preparation for the Baccalaureate. Her students were focusing on entering the business, management and hospitality industries as well as going onto Further Education and aged between 14 and 22. She has further experience teaching Key stages 2 through to 4 and primary pupils of varying ages in French. She also worked in a Swiss international Summer school teaching English from ages 4 to 13 and has acted in the capacity of a tutor in between.


During her free time she enjoys reading and watching films as well as travelling and widening her cultural experiences and knowledge.

Lou Rollason
Lou Rollason - PR Coordinator / Customer Service Manager

Lou is our Customer Service Manager and PR Coordinator, responsible for any customer enquiries and organizing pedagogical and public events. Born in Aberdeen and educated in the rural Highlands of Scotland and St Christopher School in Hertfordshire, Lou is now studying Events Management in Aberdeen.


Through her Events Management course she has significant experience of planning and running events, including work at the AECC and the European Golf Championships. She has previously worked for the National College of School Leadership under British Telecom, where she helped teachers with any support they needed to undertake courses offered by the NCSL. At Phad, she uses this experience to support our tutors and learners.


In her free time she enjoys horse riding, swimming, travelling and exploring Portugal where her parents reside

Consultants



Claudia Marques-Martin
Claudia Marques-Martin - Education & Training Consultant / Spanish

Claudia is a native speaker of both Spanish and Catalan, and uses her many years of teaching experience to help with training and support for our language tutors, as well as tutoring both Spanish and Catalan.


Originally from Barcelona, Claudia moved to Scotland in 2004, where she has worked as a Spanish teacher in several Aberdeenshire schools, a visiting lecturer, and as an adult education tutor. Before teaching in Scotland, she was a science and languages teacher in Spain and has experience as a translator. She has also spent time living and working in Paris to perfect her French.


Claudia studied Environmental Pedagogy and Environmental Sciences at Girona University (Spain), as well as education at postgraduate level, and is currently studying for an MA in French and Hispanic studies at the University of Aberdeen.

Jenni Nicolson
Jenni Nicolson - Primary Curriculum Consultant

Jenni is a specialist in primary education and helps coordinate our primary courses, making sure they complement the Scottish curriculum.


She has a passion for working in education: "I love being able to guide children to understanding concepts they thought were out of their reach. Helping children reach their potential is what I enjoy most of all".


Having completed a PGDE in Primary Education at the University of Aberdeen, she is waiting to start her probation year and, for the last five years, has worked at a fun club for children with special needs. She has invaluable experience working with children with a wide range of additional support needs.


When not teaching, she satisfies her love of film by working in a local cinema, reading, listening to music and of course - like any typical girl - shopping!

Carol Burns
Carol Burns - Education Consultant / Creative Writing & Manuscript Editing

Carol Burns taught Novel and Autobiographical Writing, Short Stories, Plays and Poetry at the City Literary Institute, London, for 32 years. Her students had many successful publications. Using visual, oral, dreams, cut-ups and Automatic Writing exercises, she helped students free their imaginations and inhibitions.


She is a Slade graduate in Fine Art, London University, who won the top prize of her year for Drawing, Painting and Stage Design. Her publications include two novels: Infatuation and The Narcissist 1968, and articles on art, literature, book reviews.


She currently edits manuscripts online.

Sarah Roellinger
Sarah Roellinger - Education & Training Consultant / French

Sarah is born and bred in France, and has lived in the UK since 2006. She received a BA in English from the Universite de Haute Alsace (France) in 2007 after having completed in final year in Aberdeen, Scotland. She then moved to South Yorkshire to teach French in a Sixth form College for a year.


Since then she has been teaching freelance, mostly professionals. She has, for example, succesfully prepared her students for job interviews in France and business trips to French speaking African countries. She takes advantage of one to one tuition by preparing individual and tailor made lessons to suit her students' needs, interests and ambitions.


She is interested in foreign cultures (she is currently studying for a MA is Social Anthropology) and enjoys snowboarding, tasty food and good wine.


Amardeep Deu
Amardeep Deu - Finance and Accounts Consultant

Amardeep is about to graduate with an MA in Accountancy and Finance from the University of Aberdeen. At Phad, he uses his experience of working with children (literacy and numeracy) and his previous experience of working in a chartered accountancy firm to head up our finance team. He is also involved in development of our business language courses.


In his spare time, he enjoys watching films and playing sports (he's an avid West Brom fan). He is passionate about languages, speaking both Punjabi and Hindi, and is currently taking a Spanish course with Phad.

Tutors



Elspeth Gray
Elspeth Gray - French

Originally from Stirling, Elspeth moved to Aberdeen five years ago, and since then has spent time living in Lausanne (Switzerland) where she studied for two years at the Ecole de Français Langue Etrangere at Lausanne University. She also has eighteen months’ experience of working as a nanny for under-6's in both France and Switzerland.


She is currently reading French Studies at the University of Aberdeen, and hopes to work with the children and families of ex-pats living in Francophone countries.

Siobhan Hewison
Siobhan Hewison - Spanish

Siobhan was born in Northumberland, before moving to Spain where she attended Spanish primary and secondary schools near Malaga. She returned to the UK in 2004, finishing school in Newcastle and moving to Aberdeen in 2009 where she currently reads Hispanic studies.


She has experience working with children, having been involved in organising plays, swimming galas and other sports events, as well as working at an afterschool club at Newcastle School for Boys for children aged 5 - 11.


In her spare time, she enjoys the cinema (so much so that she used to work at Odeon and then Cineworld), reading, acting and going to gigs.


Pascal Lösing
Pascal Lösing - German

Pascal is originally from the small German town of Verden. He moved to Aberdeen in 2009 to study for his honours degree in Biomedical Science, and will complete his postgraduate Masters degree in Germany.


He likes to juggle, eat and cook, as well as enjoying rock, indie and alternative music.

Aurélie Bernonville
Aurélie Bernonville - French

Aurelie came to Scotland four years ago, and is currently living in Aberdeen, where she has been studying for three years. Before coming to the UK, she helped young children to learn English (as well as other disciplines) in her village of Chamesson. She finds teaching pleasant and important and aims to do it in a fun way.


In her free time, Aurelie likes reading, making crepes, shopping and going to the cinema.
